When To See A Specialist For Back Pain
Visiting a spine surgeon for neck or back pain doesn’t automatically mean you’ll have surgery.
As a spine specialist, Dr. Goyal is the expert to turn to for your spine health needs.
If he doesn’t recommend surgery, our practice offers a range of interventional pain management techniques.
You should schedule an appointment with an orthopedic spine surgeon if you experience:

PERSISTENT NECK OR BACK PAIN
If neck or back pain persists for weeks or months and hasn’t gotten better with rest, taking pain medications or trying other conservative methods, you should visit a spine surgeon. Chronic back or neck pain may be a sign of an underlying condition that requires treatment.

INABILITY TO FUNCTION
If your pain or other symptoms interfere with your ability to function and perform your daily tasks, such as working, driving, exercising or engaging in activities you enjoy, scheduling an appointment as soon as you can is a good idea.
Discussion With Dr.
When you visit Centre for Spine for a consultation, Dr.Vaibhav Goyal will first talk with you about your back pain, medical history, any treatments you’ve tried, as well as the triggers for your pain. He’ll also ask you to rate your level of discomfort.
Physical Examination
After getting the details about your symptoms and situation, our expert will perform a physical examination. He’ll evaluate your spine and assess your ability to walk, stand and sit.
Medical Imaging Tests
Sometimes, a consultation and physical examination are all that’s needed for Dr. Goyal to develop an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. However, in other cases, he may order an x-ray, which will show issues with your spinal bones, such as arthritis or a fracture. Depending on the circumstances, he might also order an MRI or CT scan. These imaging tests reveal problems with the structures that aren’t visible on an x-ray like your muscles, disc, ligaments, tissue, tendons and nerves.
Additional Diagnostic Tests
If necessary, nerve studies, such as electromyography (EMG), will be ordered to determine the type and location of a nerve injury or disease. Additional diagnostic tests could also include a medial branch block or other injections to confirm the source of your back pain.
